TRADOS Project settings

Defining the project settings

This procedure explains how to edit the project parameters. You may wish to revisit these settings to change the operational parameters.

If you need more detailed information about the various parameters, open the online help to learn more.

Procedure

  1. In the bottom left corner of the Trados view, click Projects.
  2. Observe that your project is listed.
  3. Click once on the project line to select the project.
  4. Click Project Settings on the toolbar (top left corner).
  5. Observe that the Project Settings dialog box opens.
  6. On the left side displaying the dialog box structure, click Project

    The main project parameters are shown, and you are permitted to change those if necessary.

  7. On the left side, click File Types

    All the supported files types are shown. Do not make any changes.

  8. On the left side, click Verification, and open the QA Checker list.
  9. On the left side, click Segments verification.
    1. Click to enable Forgotten and empty translation (this is the default setting).
    2. Leave other options disabled.
  10. On the left side, click Segments to exclude.
    1. Leave all options disabled.
  11. On the left side, click Inconsistencies.
    1. Leave all options enabled.

    Once you gain some experience with the translation tasks, you may wish to change these settings.

  12. On the left side, click Punctuation.
    1. Enable all End punctuation options.

      NOTE: Observe the special functions for Spanish and French. Enable these if relevant.

    2. Enable all Extra dots and spaces functions.
    3. If your target language use capitalization, enable all Capitalization check functions.

      NOTE: Some languages do not use capitalization, for example Korean. For these languages, disable these functions.

    4. Enable Check for brackets.

    Once you gain some experience with the translation tasks, you may wish to change these settings.

  13. On the left side, click Numbers.
    1. Leave all options disabled.
  14. On the left side, click Word list.
    1. Enable Check word list.
    2. Type in "Wrong form" and "Correct form" of any word or phrase that you wish the program shall identify and correct.
    3. Open the online help to learn more about these options. Once you gain some experience with the translation tasks, you may wish to add additional words and phrases.
  15. On the left side, click Regular expressions.
    1. Leave all options disabled.
  16. On the left side, click Trademark Check.
    1. Leave all options disabled.
  17. On the left side, click Length Verification.
    1. Leave all options disabled.
  18. On the left side, click QA Checker Profiles.
    1. If relevant, export your current settings to a separate file.
    2. Keep the file for backup purposes.

    Keeping a backup file is very useful if you have added many words and phrases to the Word list.

  19. On the left side, click Verification, and open the Terminology Verifier list.

    Do not make any changes. We are currently not using this functionality.

  20. On the left side, click Language Pairs.

    Verify that your pair is shown.

  21. Click OK to save the changes and close the dialog box.
