Document standard Form 5008

This overall description is based on the 5008 standard from January 2005.

The following is quoted from the standard:

The superior objective of this standard is to ensure maximum operational utilisation of equipment and material procured by the Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA), based on personnel safety, product lifecycle and product lifecycle cost. This standard shall ensure that all contractors and suppliers of equipment are committed to handing over their products in a predefined, structured and correct manner, with adequate technical documentation. The requirements for technical documentation for the Royal Norwegian Navy shall assure:

  • Optimal- and safe management of the delivered product during the product life cycle
  • Correct use of the delivered product, and that it works according to the specifications
  • Correct execution of maintenance and repairs, and at the right time, thereby minimizing costs and increase availability for the delivered product
  • Unambiguous identification of spare parts, independent of whether the original manufacturer/supplier are put out of business or discontinues production of the actual parts
  • That the Royal Norwegian Navy can use delivered handbooks for training of personnel

The Form 5008 standard is split into the following parts:

  • Form 5008–0: Requirements for deliveries of technical documentation (Includes requirements for page formats, layout, typography, text, illustrations and binding)
  • Form 5008–2: Requirement for the preparation of system handbook
  • Form 5008–3: Requirement for the preparation of technical handbooks
