Upgraded KONGSBERG Riser Management System Improves Situational Awareness and Decision Support

KONGSBERG announces the latest release of the advanced KONGSBERG Riser Management System (RMS), which introduces a number of new features developed to enhance situational awareness and improve data presentation.

RMS is a real-time monitoring and decision support system for safe and optimal operation of drilling and work-over riser systems based on instrumented monitoring of critical parameters. The system is already in use by major operators worldwide. Its ability to provide optimum handling of drilling risers has been enhanced with the release of this new version (R1.7).

"Continuing with our ambition to provide the most comprehensive Riser Management System on the market, this release contains significant additions and improvements," comments Gullik A. Jensen, RMS Product Manager, KOGT. "A vital ingredient for successful riser operations is the operator’s correct perception of the current situation, so to enhance operator situational awareness we have incorporated 3D visualization of the riser system. This provides an intuitive overview of the actual situation and ensures that decisions are taken based on the right information."

"The user interface presents monitoring and advisory features in a context that the operator easily can relate to. It seamlessly integrates the different types of information in a common place and in real-time with sensor measurements and estimated states for the riser and the equipment," explains Jensen.

The updated version of RMS also includes several improvements developed due to feedback from KOGT customers and system operators. This results in a system that is even better suited to contribute to a safer and more optimal operation of the riser system during drilling operations, because those who use it have played a key part in its development.

RMS can be interfaced directly with KONGSBERG's DP or Position Mooring System or supplied as a stand-alone system. RMS R1.7 will be made available during May 2013.
